Range of motion of the neck

What it tests

assesses range of motion of the neck in flexion, extension, rotation and bending

How to do it

ask the subject to flex and extend ('yes!') rotate ('no!') and bend ("I'm a little tea pot") the neck

The normal response

chin to chest
chin to each shoulder
extend 45 degrees
no pain
no parasthesias

What it means if not normal

spondylosis?
pain and guarding?
not cooperating?
